‘Conflicts’ was 2012's theme.
The subject continues to cause problems in professional life and in disciplinary matters. With the world being ‘a smaller place’, increasing mobility and what may appear to be a more relaxed attitude it appears to come as a surprise when a conflict situation is finally recognised or comes to light.
Conflicts are best avoided by forethought and for this to be effective there is the need for an understanding of the concept. In one case, when describing the conduct complained of, the judge said it “would give a fair minded observer a palpable sense of unease.”
Possibly we should all remember this simple statement before rather than after the event.
